The Association

Timbuktu in the Valley Deutschland e.V. is a non-profit German association registered at the district court of Nuremberg, Germany, under the number VR202474. It supports the Learning Space Timbuktu in the Valley in Johannesburg through donations and other activites.

Timbuktu in the Valley is a learning center in downtown Johannesburg founded in early 2019 by photographer Lungile Hlatshwayo and journalist Victoria Schneider. The nonprofit’s principle is to provide young people whose parents have limited resources with options for later life.

Through workshops and training in various disciplines, such as bicycle mechanics, up-cycling, writing & reading we work to empower and inspire those who can sustainably shape the future of tomorrow. We provide knowledge and skills to enable tomorrow’s world shapers to live independent and self-determined lives.
